Turkey Trot Time

Here’s me acting goofy in my RRCA gear in front of the new community center at Joyner Park (Wake Forest). For us local athletes, there is a free gym in there that looks AMAZING, from what I can see. Anyway…

Did you know New Balance RDU has an annual Turkey Trot 5k, 8k, and 1-mile event every Thanksgiving Day? It’s true! And, what’s more, the 5k and 1 mile are RRCA State Championship Races! What’s that you say?

In RRCA’s words: Since 1958, the RRCA has awarded championship events through a competitive bidding process at the National, Regional, and State level to RRCA member clubs and events to promote the sport of distance running.   The RRCA Championship Event Series is the largest grassroots-organized running series in the U.S. with over 200 races participating that attract nearly 300,000 participants.

The goal of the RRCA Championship Event Series is to celebrate and shine a spotlight on well-run, community-focused events and to award top performing runners in the open, masters (40+), grand masters (50+), and senior grand masters (60+) categories for both men and women. Find more info here.

And did you know I happen to, not only be the resident running coach at New Balance Raleigh, but I’m also the RRCA’s State Representative for North Carolina? Here, check out my RRCA bio.

AND… DID YOU KNOW WE’RE GIVING AWAY CASH PRIZES TO RRCA STATE CHAMPS? In our Race Director’s (Butch Robinson) own words:

This year we are pleased to announce the Road Runners Club of America has  selected our 5K and 1 Mile races as State Championship events.

For the runners who have done this race in the past, or those doing it for the first time, nothing changes.  There will be runners on the course the same time as you who will be competing for the RRCA Championship, but your race will be the same as in the past.

The 1 Mile Fun Run will still be a non-timed event except for those runners competing for the Championship.

The 5K begins at 8:30 AM along with the 8K.   The 1 Mile Fun Run and Championship Mile begin at approximately 9:30 AM
