WED SEPT 25th at 5:30-6:30 pm – Kickoff Event

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL DREAM DAY’ (#DreamDay) World Dream Day is the ONLY global participatory day held with the express purpose of encouraging and activating ideas, goals, and dreams. Every year, through live and online events, World Dream Day inspires, empowers, and ignites individuals, families, businesses, and communities all over the world to rise up, declare new possibilities and take a stand for what they truly desire and deserve – for themselves, and our world. After our meet & greet, share with the group (if you wish) your personal hopes for a brighter world. Those which touch Mary & I the most will (based on our completely capricious and arbitrary whim) will be considered and narrowed down to one winner. Our most consciously aware well-wisher will be publicly held in reverence above all other contestants and ceremoniously receive an amazing home-made award which will look great on their shelf next to their Nobel Peace Prize and Grammy. Extra credit for those who wear pajamas.

SAT OCT 5th at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL GET FUNKY DAY’ (#GetFunkyDay) National Get Funky Day encourages everyone to break out of their funk and get funky. When we add a little spice to our everyday routine, it keeps life interesting. Watch your interactions between customers, coworkers and loved ones improve. Funkiness is infectious! National Get Funky Day is a day to celebrate life, spread love, laughter, and light! Those who spread the most funk by either being funky, acting funky, dressing funky, but not smelling funky will receive a very prestigious hand-made, award as seen fit by Scott & Mary.

SAT OCT 12th at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL FREE THOUGHT DAY’ (#FreethoughtDay) National Freethought Day is observed annually on October 12. The purpose of this National Day is to encourage people to be free thinkers and to base opinions on facts, science, logic and reason. This day occurs on the anniversary of the effective end of the Salem Witch trials on October 12, 1692. On this day, Massachusetts Governor William Phips wrote a letter condemning the use of spectral evidence against the accused. Look, anyone who shows up and runs in a witch costume wins. We’ll bring extra awards for the many witches we anticipate on having in the group.

SUN OCT 20th at 4pm

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL YOUTH CONFIDENCE DAY’ (#NationalYouthConfidenceDay) National Youth Confidence Day celebrates the energy, spirit, and potential of young people. The day is an acknowledgment of all they will accomplish. Guidance, leadership and mentors will help light the path, and today’s youth will navigate the obstacles that will inevitably lay before them. We’ll share a quick pre-run a discussion on the best ways to show a young person in your life you care (or a hypothetical one) and provide them with the tools to reach their potential. Offer them the knowledge, skills and know how to build their confidence. Plan the seed, watch it grow, and celebrate their achievement. An Illustrious award – handmade in The Waldrop Garage – will go to whoever drops the most profound knowledge around this subject. Moreover, we’ll include your quote on our Instagram page which will make you famous.

SUN OCT 27th at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL BLACK CAT DAY’ (#NationalBlackCatDay) How do you know who the vegans are in the room? They’ll let you know! So, Mary & I are plantbased athletes and we love, love animals! But did you know people are weird about adopting black cats from old superstitions??? Yea. Apparently, this is a real thing. This time of year, black cats may decorate many thresholds for Halloween and windows for spooky decor, these felines deserve the love and attention just as much as their tabby counterparts.  Old notions have given these furry critters a bad reputation. National Black Cat Day is about turning that reputation around. ‘Cats Protection’, an animal charity in the United Kingdom, founded National Black Cat Day to raise awareness concerning the lower rates of adoption for black cats. If you are a cat lover and considering adopting, don’t overlook the ebony to go with your ivory. Knock those irrational fears to the door and open your home to the dark side! So, dress like a black cat and the award is YOURS! Or, dress in black if you can’t be made to look ridiculous.

SAT NOV 2nd at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL BISON DAY’ (#BeardsforBison or #NationalBisonDay) Each year on the first Saturday in November the country honors one of the most majestic beasts to roam the land on National Bison Day. The official National Mammal of the United States, the iconic North American Bison has played a cultural, economic, and environmental role in the history of the country. The once giant herds that covered the plains were nearly decimated. Now, bison populate all 50 states living in national parks, refuges, tribal and private lands. So, on this day we shall run like a heard of bison through the streets of Raleigh and all individuals rocking a bison-like get-up (real or faux) are eligible for a very handsome hand-made trophy which will undoubtedly hang on your wall for the rest of time as your proudest moment and highest achievement.

SAT NOV 9th at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘WORLD FREEDOM DAY’ (#FreedomDay) In many parts of the world, freedom is something that is taken for granted—the freedom to choose any religion we want (or no religion at all), the freedom to be in a relationship with the person we love, the freedom to travel…the list goes on. Unfortunately, there are many, many places in the world where these freedoms are not available to most people, who are forced to live empty, unfulfilling lives so the rulers of their countries don’t have them thrown in jail or worse. If you don’t know what it means to be afraid to voice your opinion, then you can consider yourself very lucky to live in a place where liberty is a priority as well as a basic human right. And like all good things, liberty should be celebrated, and that’s what World Freedom Day is all about. So, most of us agree that it’s pretty awesome we’re not forced to live in conditions were we most live ‘empty, unfulfilling lives’. What are you going to do with your freedom? The most profound statement gets the award and their quote gets posted on our social media.

 SUN NOV 17th at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘NATIONAL TAKE A HIKE DAY’ (#NationalTakeAHikeDay) National Take a Hike Day is observed annually on November 17.  With over 60,000 miles of trails in the National Trail System across the 50 states, there is no lack of opportunity to take a hike. Events around the country are scheduled today to celebrate Take a Hike Day.  Hiking can burn between 400-550 calories per hour. What better way to get a head start on all those ‘other’ holiday temptations and observe Take a Hike Day?  Be sure to wear good shoes, take a snack and bring a buddy, but get out there and enjoy the fresh air, scenery and get a little exercise to boot! Well we’re essentially gonna road run on the Raleigh Greenway so the awards go to the individual who dresses like the biggest tree-hugging, granola-head hippy!

SAT NOV 23 at 9am

AWARD FOR ‘International Aura Awareness Day’ (#AuraAwarenessDay #InternationalAuraAwarenessDay) Yes, this is a thing. Those behind International Aura Awareness Day believe that all living things are surrounded by a human energy field—or “energy body”—called an aura. They believe that auras change depending on mood and health, and that healthy people have healthy auras that are bright and colorful. If someone has a psychological or physical problem, they believe their aura may be dark or damaged. The creators of the day made it to increase awareness of auras because they think awareness will prevent people from getting sick and suffering in other ways. Therefore, the holiday is a day each year to examine your own aura in order to improve your health, thus improving global health. They also believe the auras of others and global health can be improved through long distance healing, a form of prayer. “Aura” means wind, breeze, or breath in Latin and Ancient Greek. The term was used in Middle English to mean gentle breeze. The belief in auras as colorful glows that cover all living things, can be seen, and that affect health is a New Age belief. Anyway – come to the run group dressed up in bright colors and be in a fantastic mood and you just may win the prestigious award of having the most awesome aura of anyone in the run group!

  • THURS NOV 28th 8:30a – Target Race!
  • HOW FAR?
5 miles unless you need to go a little less or more. We will look after everyone as best we possibly can to ensure all skill levels will benefit and feel important.
Don’t worry! We’ve got fast people and slow people. We’ll work it out. The most important thing is that we can benefit from one another’s company whether we’re the teach or learner – and in most cases we can be BOTH!
  • YOU SHOULD JOIN THIS RUN GROUP BECAUSE IT’S SPECIAL – This group is hosted by demonstrated and accomplished athletes/wellness coaches (a dubious term I know but bear with me). You will have access to accredited individuals (see below) who know how to go faster, go longer, stay mostly injury free, and make profound life change. You pay to join most marathon training programs and will typically receive instruction from individuals with comparatively modest credentials. New Balance RDU provides the community access to elite endurance and speed athletes free of charge, and in a safe/fun environment. We do, however, treat this more like a structured social group. The hosts do not see ourselves as above anyone. It’s all about athletes coming together and hanging out. While this is not a highly structured training program you can (and are encouraged) to pick the brains of its hosts. If you’re an aspiring ultrarunner, speed demon, or want to make healthy changes – we got you!

HOST #1 is ‘COACH’ SCOTT WALDROP = record-holding Ultrarunner, 1st place overall in Charleston 100-miler 2018, 1rst place overall Tarheel 378-miler Crewed Division 2018, RRCA Certified Long Distance Running Coach, RRCA North Carolina State Rep, Herren Project Ambassador, UltrAspire Athlete, Blog: www.runnerscott.com / Instagram @ultrarunvegan

HOST #2 is MARY WALDROP = Marathoner, Licensed Massage Therapist, T. Colin Campbell Plant-based Certified, Neighborhood Ambassador for The Produce Box, Herren Project Ambassador, Green Compass Global CDB Oil Advocate

HOST(s) #3 The peeps from Team New Balance RDU will be (hopefully, from what I understand) popping in when available. Team New Balance RDU is our Elite development race team. These guys are FAST! See what they’re up to on their Facebook  and Instagram.

Yes! Please do.

  • WHERE?
1101 Mercantile Dr. Suite 100, Raleigh NC 27609 – meet in front of (new) New Balance Store – facing Old Wake Forest Road

Yes! EVERY RUN: free homemade Plant-based goodies made by Mary, raffle a goodie bag, cooler full of cold drinks

It’s all about The Gram baby! Instagram that is. Say wuh? We’ve got a ‘major award’ – a hand-made 🥇 award – for those who celebrate the ‘National Day’ with the most spirit. This is meant to be fun and zany. And, allow us to take preposterous run group photos with us looking like goofs (as I know we’re all comfortable in our respective badassery) to post on social media while simultaneously being socially and spiritually conscious. We’ll make this world a better place one run group at a time!
Our target race is The New Balance Durham Turkey Trot 8k, 5k, and 1-mile, Thanksgiving Day: Thursday November 28th 2019
Yes – towards the end of the season (mid-Nov) we’ll dole ‘em out on a ‘TBA’ date to those with a high participation/attendance rate which just may be arbitrarily determined by how much Scott & Mary like you – JK – we’ll take attendance each run. 😉
